Mitsuru Ushiyama graduated from Tokyo Academy of Music in 1913.
From 1913 to 1928 Mitsuru Ushiyama served as lecturer of his alma mater. Became nonregular staff member of the Asahi Shimbun newspaper in 1922 and served as dancing reviewer until 1934.
Mitsuru Ushiyama was awarded the Education Ministry's Prize in 1952. He is also known on his books including "Appreciation of Western Classic Music" (1952).
