Mochimitsu Kudo helped to subdue Tametomo Minamoto, who after being exiled to Oshima Island began plundering the countryside (1170). Later he sided with Yoritomo Minamoto in his revolt, and after they were defeated at Mount Ishibashi, he fled into the mountains, but as he was too fat to escape capture he instructed his son, Chikamitsu, to faithfully serve Yoritomo, after which he committed hara-kiri.
