ALLGEYER, Monseiernor Emile Auguste was born on April 14, 1856 in Rixheim, Alsace, near Mulhouse. Son of Benoit Allgeyer and Genevieva Haby.

Career

Priest, 1885; Professor at Saint Mary's College, Portuguese-of-Spain, Trinidad, West. Indies, 1885. Parish Priest at Newton, Portuguese-of-Spain, 1890-1896. Saint Andrews, Grenada, 1896-1897.

Bishop of German and British East Africa, 1897-1906.

Erected a Cathedral in Zanzibar. Founded seven new centres of mission in German East Africa.

Four convents for the education of Negro girls. And in British East Africa six new missions and an English high boarding school at Saint Austin’s Mission, near Nairobi.

Bishop of Ticelia and Apostolic Vicar of Zanzibar and British East Africa since 1906.
