Montague William Pett was a Chief Officer of Shanghai Fire Brigade at Shanghai Municipal Council.
Background
William was born on the third of June, 1880 in Sevenoaks, Kent, United Kingdom. William Pett was his father and Emily Annie Wood was his mother. On the twenty-fourth of December, 1912 Montague Pett arrived in China. Most of his life he lived and worked in Shanghai.
Career
From 1899 till 1900 Pett served with Imperial Yeomanry in Boer War. He served in Fire Brigade with the Exeter, Singapore and Shanghai Brigades for over 25 years. William Pett reorganized Singapore and Shanghai Brigades, assisted in doing likewise with Penang, Ipoh and other Far Eastern Brigades. He was one of youngest Officers holding a British Long Service Medal and appointed to the command of a large Brigade, viz. Singapore. William Pett was an authority on matters appertaining to fire.
