Entered army from Militia as 2nd Lieutenant 2nd Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, 1899. Served South Africa, 1899-1901 (wounded Spion Kop). Transferred to Irish Guards, 1901.
Transferred to 2nd Life Guards, 1903. 6th Baronet., cartulary-register 1801; Captain 2nd Life Guards; son of late Captain Edward Hugli Crofton (b. of 4th Baronet.), and Isabel Julia, d. of Colonel Miller.
