Educated at El Hijra Elementary School, Omdurman, then at the Intermediate School, Omdurman before going to Gordon Memorial College in 1937.
After working as a clerk from 1941 to 1947 he spent a year at the School of Administration, Khartoum. Thereafter his promotion was rapid. By 1954 he was a deputy district commissioner and the following year he was a district commissioner. In 1966 he became a deputy governor. He was subsequently promoted Lands Commissioner. President Nimeri appointed him to the first cabinet after the revolution in May 1969 to take charge of Housing. When the cabinet was streamlined in May 1973 he was given extended authority over Construction and Public Works.
Skilled administrator with extensive experience of land problems. Though not a man of great flair, he has a methodical approach to questions and an integrity of purpose stemming from his days as a district commissioner which stamp him as a man who can get a job done efficiently.
