Mudrooroo Nyoongah was born on August 21, 1938 in Narrogin, Western Australia, Australia.
He attended Murdoch University. He received from Melbourne University his B.A. (honors) in 1987.
He was a lecturer at the University of Northern Territory, Darwin in 1987. Then he lectured at the University of Queensland, Brisbane in 1988. Since 1991 he was chair of Aboriginal Studies, Murdoch University, Perth. Besides, he was co-founder of Aboriginal Oral Literature and Dramatists Association.
He has been a member of the Australian Society of Authors, Aboriginal Oral Literature and Dramatists Association.
He was companion of Janine Mary Little, beginning in 1993. Currently he is married to Sangya Magar and has 3 children.
