Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Belozerskaya was a Russian translator, teacher, historian, writer and journalist. She was familiar with preeminent members of Ukrainian culture P. Kulish and T. Shevchenko. In the early 1860s together with her husband, she held weekly meetings, where I. Turgenev, N. Chernyshevsky and other writers were present.
Background
Nadezhda Aleksandrovna Belozerskaya was born on April 10, 1838, in Sofievka estate, Novgorod province, Russian Empire (now Sofievka, Vologda Oblast, Russian Federation) in the family of a forester. Since childhood, she lived in Petrozavodsk.

Career
Nadezhda Aleksandrovna made translations in the Russian press, published with a preface and notes by N. Kostomarov "Zapiski o Moskovii XVI veka sera Dzheroma Gorseya", as well as "Ancient Law, its Connection with the "Drevneye pravo, yego svyaz' s drevney istoriyey obshchestva i yego otnosheniye k noveyshim ideyam". She also translated fairy tales from French and Italian.
Nadezhda Aleksandrovna collaborated with Marko Vovchok in the journal "Otechestvennye Zapiski" (1868-1870) and "Illyustrirovannyy zhurnal". In 1872, together with her, she published her translation of the two-volume "Istoriya chelovecheskoy kul'tury" by F. Kolba.
In 1867, with three children, Nadezhda Aleksandrovna left her husband, earned a living by tutoring (in 1868 she passed the exam to become a home teacher). In 1868-1873, due to an eye disease of Kostomarov, she took the duties of his literary secretary, under the influence of which she became addicted to Russian history and set about studying it and independent historical research.
In 1878 Nadezhda Aleksandrovna edited the journal "Vospitaniye i obucheniye". With the support of D. Mordovtsev, she placed articles and reviews in the journals "Drevnyaya i Novaya Rossiya" and "Zhivopisnaya Rossiya". She was also published in the newspapers "Lastochka", "Igrushechka", "Istorichesky Vestnik", "Russkaya mysl", wherein 1885 she published N. Kostomarov’s autobiography written.
Nadezhda Aleksandrovna took part in the activities of the translators' artel and the creation of higher women's courses.
