Nadja Maril was born on March 24, 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. She is a daughter of Herman and Esta C. Maril.
Nadja Maril studied at The Park School. She attended Smith College from 1972 to 1973. Later she studied at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. Now she studies at the University of Southern Maine.
Nadja Maril started her career as a columnist at The Capital Newspapers in 1984. At that time she also worked at Victorian Homes Magazine as an editor. She wrote articles for other local newspapers and magazines. In 2003, Maril became the president of Anne Arundel County Arts Council. She held this post until 2005. She worked as editor-in-chief at What's Up? Media from 2005 to 2011. Maril has launched a number of publications that include What’s Up? Eastern Shore, and What’s Up? Weddings as well as the content of the WhatsUpMag.com website. In 2012, she became an Editor of Chesapeake Taste Magazine. In 2014, Maril became a director of Nadja Maril Media.
Nadja Maril published her first book, Me, Molly Midnight, the Artist’s Cal, in 1977. Her next book was published in 1980. After several years of research on the history of American lighting, her book, American Lighting 1840-1940, was published by Schiffer Publishers in 1989 and several years later appeared another book Antique Lamp Buyer’s Guide. Nadja Maril continues to write personal essays, non-fiction, and fiction.

1977Nadja Maril married Cyril J. Patrick in August 1978. The marriage produced two children. In 1989, Cyril J. Patrick died. Later Nadja Maril married Peter B. Crilly.
