Nagamasa Kuroda began donning arms at the early age of nine and fought gallantly alongside his father, in regard for which Hideyoshi Toyotomi presented him with a horse. Succeeded to his father's fief, Nakatsu Castle in Buzen (Oita Prefecture). Followed Hideyoshi’s punitive expedition to Korea and fought there for seven years with great distinction since 1592 till 1599. After Hideyoshi's death in 1598 Nagamasa Kuroda conspired with Ieyasu Tokugawa and destroyed Mitsunari Ishida in the Sekigahara Battle in 1600. As reward for his services Ieyasu gave him a fief of 520,000 koku of rice and made him Lord of Fukuoka Castle. Next fought for Hidetada Tokugawa against Toyotomi in the Battle of Osaka in 1614-1615.
Nagamasa Kuroda was also a patron of literature and an able administrator.
