A disciple of Okamochi Tegara, novelist, he at first wrote kibyoshi (stories for the masses) but later turned to kyoka. He became the most well-known kyoka composer after Magao Shikatsube and Meshimori Yadoya died.
He was a competent connoisseur of swords.
