Nakatoki Hojo was born in 1306. He was the son Mototoki.

Career
In 1330, he became Rokuhara Tandai (military governor of the Shogunate with his headquarters at Rokuhara, south of Kyoto) and maintained order in the Kyoto area together with Tokimasa Hojo. When Emperor Godaigo attempted to overthrow the Shogunate, he arrested Nobufusa Fujiwara and other courtiers and brought to Rokuhara ex-Emperors Gofushimi and Hana-zono and the Crown Prince. Then his forces took Mt. Kasagi where Emperor Godaigo was hiding and brought him back to Kyoto. His forces also captured Aka- saka Castle of Masashige Kusunoki, a warlord of the Imperial camp. In 1332, Emperor Godaigo was exiled to Oki Island and Nakatokrs army defeated Imperial forces at Yoshino and elsewhere. After the Imperial camp regained power and many of his followers betrayed him, Nakatoki fled eastward. Imperial forces, however, caught him together with his some 400 followers at Bamba Pass in Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture). Nakatoki and all his followers killed themselves there.
