Nancy Dixon was born on May 6, 1955, in Karachi, Pakistan. She is a daughter of James T. Dixon, a military, and Helen J. Dixon.
In 1988, Nancy received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of New Orleans. Then, in 1991, she got a Master of Arts degree from the same university. Later, Dixon continued her education at Louisiana State University, graduating with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1995.
In her early years, Nancy worked at Matassa’s Bar in New Orleans. In 1995, she began working as a Professor of New Orleans Literature at the University of New Orleans. In 2017, Dixon was appointed an Executive Editor of "New Orleans and the World", the city’s official tricentennial book, published by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities.
In addition, Nancy has penned several articles and two books, such as "Fortune and Misery, Sallie Rhett Roman of New Orleans: A Biographical Portrait and Selected Fiction, 1891-1920" (1999) and "N.O. Lit: 200 Years of New Orleans Literature" (2013).
Currently, Dixon holds a post of a Program Coordinator and Professor of English at Dillard University.
