She obtained a BS in Fine Arts at Finch College in New York City in 1959.
She was a freelance photojournalist for magazines such as Time, Vogue, Newsweek, People, Paris-Match, etc. She also worked as a special photographer on the following motion pictures: Coming Home, The Champ, Promises in the Dark, China Syndrome, The Day of the Locust, Oh God, Oh God and Coast to Coast, among others.
Ellison is also a poet. Besides having published in American and international poetry anthologies and underground Journals, she is the author of two books of poetry: Come Late 1962 and Head Fifth Poetry.
A photojournalist, she works in 35mm format. On film sets she shoots rehearsals, action and exclusive reenactments.
