Background
Naomasa Matsudaira was born in 1601 in Japan. He was the third son of Yûki Hideyasu, the second son of Tokugawa Ieyasu. Naomasa's elder brothers were Matsudaira Tadamasa and Matsudaira Tadanao.

Career
Naomasa Matsudaira was lord of Matsumoto han in Shinano province until 1638, when he was transferred to Matsue han, with a kokudaka of 186,000 koku, after the previous lord of Matsue, Kyôgoku Tadataka, died without an heir. Naomasa was succeeded in turn, as lord of Matsue, by his son Matsudaira Tsunataka; their descendants would continue to rule Matsue until the 1871 abolition of the han.
