Narazaki Raizo was born in 1846.
He studied at the Meinn-kan, the clan school and participated in the battle against British warships at Shimonoseki (1863).
Distinguished himself at the battle of Hiroshima against ShoKunate forces. In the civil war between the Imperial and Shogunate forces (1868), he participated in the battle of Aizu (Fukushima Prefecture). Served the Imperial Government after the Meiji Restoration (1868) and was ordered to study in France (1879). Died of tuberculosis in Paris while serving as superintendent of Japanese students in France.
