He attended Beall Avenue Elementary, Edgewood Junior High, and Wooster High School. He continued his education at. Havholm graduated with a Bachelor in English.
Since he was a child, he had a great affinity for photography. Havholm began his career in New York City at Music Television in 1993 and worked for Viacom as a “permalancer” until 1996. While at Music Television and Viacom, Havholm realized he could make a living taking photos inside the entertainment industry.
He assisted cinematographers from 1996 until 2003.
As an assistant, Havholm learned the principals of cinematography. In 2000, he left assisting union sitcoms to pursue a career as a photographer and cinematographer.
The television and movie experience provided the means to continue the pursuit of photography. Havholm uses Contax MR137, Fuji GSWIII 6X9, Canon 5D mkII, Personal CS5 as his photographic tools.
His favorite photographers are Gary Winogrand, Lee Fredlander, Robert Frank, Stephen Shore, William Eggleston, and Mitch Epstein.
According to Havholm, the photographer"s natural world has provided him with most of his better selling images, but his urban work – shot primarily in documentary fashion – continues to fortify his portfolio.
