Natsukawa Kakuji was born in 1898, Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan.
Graduated from Hikone Middle School.
Entered Kenmen (Omi Silk and Cotton) Spinning Company, (later changed to Silk Spinning Company) of which his father was president. He was appointed president of the company (1941). During the war converted his company into the manufacture of aircraft parts. After the war his company made rapid extension in productivity, becoming one of 10 largest spinning companies in the country. His company was involved in a serious and prolonged strike (1954) over his management methods and he was forced to retire temporarily from active management of the company.
