Nazib Gaiazovich Zhiganov


Nazib Zhiganov, USSR Composer. One of the founders of the Kazan’ Conservatory, and its director from 1945. His works are mainly operatic.


Nazib Zhiganov was born in 1911 in Uralsk. Was orphaned, and grew up in children’s homes.


Musical training at the Kazan’ Music Polytechnic, 1928-1930, at the Music School attached to the Moscow Conservatory, 1931-1935, and at the Moscow Conservatory, 1935-1938. Pupil of Litinskii.


Artistic director of the Tatar Theatre, 1939. Co-founder of Kazan Conservatory. 1945-1954 instructor and lecturer in orchestration, Kazan Conservatory. Professor, since 1954 and Director, since 1945, Kazan Conservatory; Deputy, Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic Supreme Soviet of 1947, 1951, 1955 and 1959 convocation.

Secretary, USSR and Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic Union of Composers; Popular Artist of USSR, since 1957; Honoured Art Worker Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and Tatar Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic; Chairman, Tatar Union of Composers, since 1939.
