Ned L. Fielden was born on August 30, 1954, in Hartford, Connecticut, United States. He is the son of Lee and Constance Fielden.
Ned Fielden began his studies at Hampshire College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts in 1976. In 1992 he obtained a Master of Arts degree in history at Sonoma State University. That same year he got a Master of Library and Information Science degree at the University of California, Berkeley.
Ned Fielden began his librarian's career in 1993 when he joined Sonoma State University as an assistant librarian, the position he held till 1995. Then he began his long years at San Francisco State University's J.Paul Leonard Library, working as a senior assistant librarian from 1995 till 2001. For the next six years, he was an associate librarian becoming a librarian in 2006.
During his years of activity, Fielden was a coordinator for the College of Liberal and Creative Arts at the university. In this position, he managed selector issues for the college, acted as a selector and liaison to departments of philosophy and religion, classics, Latin, Jewish studies, and the School of Humanities and Liberal Studies, selected new materials for library collections in support of academic programs, managed collection for optimal quality, and served as a liaison for communication with respective departments. Fielden left J.Paul Leonard Library in 2019.
His field of exploration is Internet and electronic research as well. He is the author with Maria Garrido of Internet Research: Theory and Practice which covers the fundamentals of electronic searching. In this book, the authors teach the research process and the evaluation of the information. Search Engines Handbook, written with Fielden's wife, Lucy Kuntz, features some useful tips and tricks for newbies. Besides describing major search engines, directories, and search strategies, it explains how search engines work and provides commentary on the importance of learning from the process of rethinking failed searches. In addition to books, Fielden is also the author of book chapters, articles, and essays.
Ned Fielden is a recognized librarian listed as a noteworthy one by Marquis Who's Who. For his work as a librarian, he also received some grants.
Fielden succeeded as a researcher of internet search as well. He is the author of books that are considered the best guides for librarians and internet users.

Ned Fielden is married to Lucy Kuntz. The marriage produced four children: Gene, Maggie, Aaron, and Heather.
Lee Fielden (April 24, 1921 - September 18, 2005) served as an artillery officer in World War II, in the United States Army in 1943-1946. He received battle stars for New Guinea and Luzon, an Air medal as an observer, and was discharged as a captain. He also served in the Korean War as an artillery officer and later as a JAG officer in Arkansas. He worked for the Hartford law firm of Robinson, Robinson, and Cole, specializing in corporate law.
Lucy Kuntz is an American author known for the book, Search Engines Handbook, which she co-wrote with Ned Fielden.
