Nichio propounded the principle of fuju fuse-ha giving and receiving no alms. Was initiated into priesthood by Chief Priest Nitten of the Myokakuji Temple and was annointed its chief priest at the age of 27. When Hideyoshi Toyotomi sponsored a great mass attended by 1,000 priests (1695), Nichio de dined Hideyoshi invitation to participate in the function on account of his fuju fuse-ha principle. Also rejected leyasu Tokugawa’s invitation to a similar function (1600). As a result, he was exiled to Tsushima Island off Kyushu. Pardoned in 1612, he came back to the Myokakuji Temple.
