Nicholas was born in 1911 in Ukraine.
Nicholas multinational education included secondary education in Poland and subsequent medical education in Italy, then in literary studies in the United States and Mexico. In 1940 he studied at the University of Rome in Rome, Italy. He became a Doctor of Medicine. In seven years Nicholas was a student of the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, United States. he received a degree of the Master of Arts in Romance languages and literature. In 1951 he studied at Inter-American University in Mexico, receiving his Doctor of Philosophy in Latin American literature in 1962.
Nicholas worked as an Emeritus Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, United States from 1950 to 1994. He was an educator of Slavic and Romance Languages (Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese), translator, poetry and short fiction author.
