He completed a Doctor of Philosophy at Harvard University studying with Harrison Birtwistle, Bernard Rands, Magnus Lindberg, Julian Anderson, Lee Hyla, Mario Davidovsky, Judith Weir, Michael Finnissy. His chamber vocal pieces include Torrid Nature Scenes, The Butcher of Brisbane and The Economy of Wax. He currently teaches at Sydney Grammar School.
