Moscow University
Nikolai Benetskiy was born in 1804 near Vitebsk, Belarus.
Nikolai Benetskiy was a teacher of the Russian language and calligraphy in Russian schools. In 1837 he became the caretaker of the Ostashkov school, then the school of the Vyshny Volochyok (since 1838). In 1851, in the same position, he was transferred to the Porech district school.
Nikolai Benetskiy is the author of the only collection of Fables and Parabolas (1830). Benetsky’s fables conveniently classified into "fables", "parabolas" and "apologists", were created mainly on original subjects (sometimes quite interesting), but their artistic merit is poor. In some fables of the collection, there is a strong anti-Western orientation. Some "parabolas" come close to lyric poems.
