In 1982 he graduated from the Engineering and Spinning Faculty of Ivanovo Textile Institute, specializing in spinning of natural and chemical fibers. In 1992 Nikolai Ivanovich Dorogov finished Economics Department of Ivanovo State University, specializing in Industrial Planning. In 1992 he defended his Thesis for a Candidate's Degree on the topic "Economic and organizational aspects of state management of the economy of the region under the conditions of transformation of ownership forms (on the example of the Ivanovo region)", in 1999 Dorogov defended his Doctorate Thesis on the topic "Improving the state management of the economy of the region in a variety of forms of ownership (Conceptual framework)". Moreover, Nikolai Ivanovich Dorogov is a Doctor of Economics.
In 1973-1974 he worked as an electrician, electrician-loader of the workshop number 27 of the Ivanovo machine-tool plant of the 50th anniversary of the USSR. In 1974-1976 Nikolai Ivanovich Dorogov served in the airborne troops in the Armed Forces of the USSR. In 1976-1979 he worked as a mechanic, master's assistant of Lenin worsted integrated works in Ivanovo. Since 1979 Nikolai Ivanovich worked as the Secretary of the All-Union Leninist Young Communist League of “Tochpribor” Association of the Leninsky District Committee of All-Union Leninist Young Communist League (Ivanovo). Since 1980 he held the position of the instructor of the Komsomol organizations department, deputy head, head of the department of Komsomol organizations of the Ivanovo Regional Committee of All-Union Leninist Young Communist League (AULYCL). Since 1988, Dorogov worked as the instructor of the organizational department of the Leninsky District Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (Ivanovo). Since 1989 he worked as an inspector of the Ivanovo Regional people's oversight committee. Since 1990, Dorogov held the post of the professional associate of the first category and main specialist of the department of organizational and Soviet work of the Ivanovo Regional Council of People's Deputies. Since 1991 he took up a post of a deputy chairman. Since 1993Nikolai Ivanovich worked as a chairman of the Committee on State Property Management Administration of the Ivanovo region. In 1993-2000 he worked as a deputy head of the administration. In 2000-2001 he held the position of a deputy chairman of the government of the Ivanovo region. In 2001 Dorogov worked as a head of the Territorial Administration of the Ministry of Property Relations of the Russian Federation in the Ivanovo region. In 2001-2004 he took up a post of the head of the Department of Personnel Support and Coordination of the Territorial Bodies of the Ministry of Property Relations of the Russian Federation. Since 2004 Nikolai Dorogov worked as a Vice-Rector for work with regions and the first Vice-Rector of the Higher School of Privatization and Entrepreneurship - the Institute. On the first of June, 2009 he was appointed Director of the Department of Land Policy and Property Relations of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.
He is married, and has two children.
