Career
In 1933-1941 he was a research worker of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1937 he became head of the Department of Europe, Caucasus and Western Central Asia in the Museum of Anthropology, Archaeology and Ethnography, part of the Institute of Anthropology, Archaeology and Ethnography.
Then he was a Director of the Tajikistan Museum in 1941-1943, it was a branch office of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
He worked as a teacher at history faculty of the Stalinabad State Pedagogical University.
In 1943-1945 he was an employee of the USSR Embassy in Iran.
In 1945-1950 he worked as a Director of Anthropology and Ethnography of the Museum of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1948-1973 he was a head of the Central Asia sector of the Leningrad subsidiary of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
In 1951-1953 and 1957-1961 he was a senior researcher.
