Took part in World War I as a colonel. Joined the Red Army, 1918. During the Civil War, chief-of-staff at the Eastern front, and army commander, and chief-ofstaff at the Western front, later became Commander of Armed Forces in the Ukraine and the Crimea.
Head of the Air Force Academy, and Deputy Commander of the Air Force. Deputy head of the Frunze Military Academy, 1925. Professor at higher educational establishments of the Red Army.
