He studied at the sculptural department in Dnepropetrovsk (now Institute of Technical Mechanics) (1934-1936, teacher was M.S. Pogrebnyak) and Odessa (1936) art technical schools.
Nikolai Borisovich lived in Voronezh since 1947. Instructor, head of the personnel sector, deputy head of the general department of the Voronezh Regional Executive Committee (1947-1956). Since 1962 he worked as the artist-designer of artistic and industrial workshops of the Voronezh branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR.
Since 1964 he took part in regional, zonal, all-Russian exhibitions. He works mainly in the genre of landscape in the technique of drawing with a pen.
Among the works of Vasilenko, dedicated to the nature of the Voronezh region, here exist the following works: "Derevenskiy dvorik" (1969), "Usmanka v Rykani" (1991), "Malaya Pchelinovka" (2004), a series of graphic works: "Kray Voronezhskiy" (1980), "Rodniki Pridonya"(1986), "Usmanka - reka malaya" (1986), "Donskie motivy "(1987) and others.
Personal exhibitions of Vasilenko's works were held in the Voronezh House of Architects (1982), in the exhibition hall of the Union of Artists (1985, 1987, 1992, 2002).
