At the age of 13 Nikolai first entered the stage in the city of Voronezh as part of the "Gotrans. Gypsy gang".
In 1936 he toured with the ensemble Volshaninova. He was a founder and artistic Director of the Gypsy ensemble (1945), which was based in Voronezh until 1949. Since 1954 he was the head of the gypsy song and dance ensemble at the Vladimir Philharmonic.
Nikolai is an author of more than 200 songs and romances ("The Girlfriend of the Seven-Strings", "I'm a Gypsy Girl" and others), music for the plays of the Moscow Theater "Roman" ("Bitter Blood", "Gypsy", "The Mystery of the Blue Stone", "Viva, Carmen! "And others), films: " Tabor Goes to Heaven "," Golden Gypsies of Moscow "and others. Also to animated films.
Together with her husband she worked in Voronezh. The Zhamchuzhnye have been many times on tours in Voronezh and villages of its region.
