Nikolay Nikolaevich Boyarchikov

Background

Nikolay Boyarchikov was born in the family the first russian pilot Nikolay Nikitich Boyarchikova and a teacher of The Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. His father died in the period of The Siege of Leningrad. The family was evacuated to Perm, where Nilokay was engaged in classical dance.

Education

After his arrival in Leningrad, Nikolay entered in The Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. His tutor were Alexander Bocharov, Igor Belsky, Boris Bruskin and Leonid Petrov. Graduated from the Academy in 1954 in the class of Boris Shavrov then entered in the troupe of The Mikhailovsky Theatre, where he performed mainly characteristic and grotesque parties.

Career

He became the ballet master in 1956. Set the dances and dramatic performances on stages and cinema. In 1967 was graduated from choreography department of Saint Petersburg Conservatory (tutors Fyodor Lopukhov and Igor Belsky). Made his debut as a choreographer of the staging of “The Three Musketeers” V. Basner in The Mikhailovsky Theatre.

From 1971 till 1977 was the chief choreographer of The Perm Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theatre. From 1977 was the chief choreographer. From 1990 till 2007 was the director of The Mikhailovsky Theatre.

Since 1976, he has been conducting the course "The Art of a Choreographer" at the chair "Directing Ballet" in Saint Petersburg Conservatory (since 2001 is a professor, from 2001 till 2008 was a head of the department). Among his students were G. Kovtun, V.Salimbaev, M. Bolshakova, G. Sudakov, O. Lihovskaya and others.

Member of the Commission of the Union of theatrical figures of the Russian Federation on choreography.
