1887 graduate Mikhail Artillery Academy.
1887-1892 taught artillery and ballistics at Moscow Infantry School: 1892-1896 worked in Infantry Officers School. 1896-1905 member, Artillery' Committee. 1905-1915 founder-commander, Rifle Range.
1915-1917 military school commandant. From 1892 simultaneously tested automatic infantry weapons, studied automatic weapons in various European countries, formed the first machine- and sub- machine-gun detachments in the Russian Army (in WW I - reserve machine-gun regts). Supported early Russian inventors and designers of automatic weapons: V. G. Fyodorov, F. V. Tokarev, Ya.
U. Roshchcpcy, V. A. Degtyaryov, I. N. Kolesnikov, etc. After 1917 October Revol helped train first Soviet infantry commanders. November 1918 organized Vystrel Infantry School.
Until late 1922 commandant of this school. From late 1922 worked for Infantryjnspcc- tion. Chairman. Red Army Infantry Committee.
