Nikolay Gurvich was a local historian and ethnographer. A member of the Noble Assembly of Ufa province. Full member of the Imperial Russian Geographical Society. MP of the provincial, district (Ufa), city (Ufa) zemstvo assembly.

Education

In 1834 the family left to Germany where Nikolay went to classical grammar school and graduated from it in 1846 with a gold medal. After the graduation from school young Gurvich was quite independent, he was a tutor and suppported his mother.

In 1847 Gurvich came to St.-Petersburg and entered the St. Petersburg Medical Academy. He Graduated in 1852 and got a title of doctor.
