Studied at university.
Late 1890’s participated in student movement in Saint St. Petersburg. Populist, then from 1889 Social-Democrat. Frequently arrested, then exiled.
After 2nd Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Congress sided with Mensheviks and became a leading Menshevik journalist, contributing to Menshevik Iskra and editing the legal Sovremennyy mir. 1905 elected to Executive Committee, Saint St. Petersburg Soviet of Workers’ Deputy. 1906 attended Stockholm Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Congress and was elected candidate member, Central Committee and appointed to editorial board of central organization
1910 represented Mensheviks in Zvezda organisation but soon resigned. 1909-1917 ed, journal Sovremennyy mir. During World War I took defensist stand.
1917 member, Plekhanov’s ’’Unity” group. After 1917 February Revol appointed Provisional Government comissar for armies on Southwestern Front. After 1917 October Revol for a while abandoned politics but then pledged his support for Soviet regime.
1921 ed, Soviet newspaper Put in Finland. From November 1921 Collegium member. People's Commissariat of Education.
1922 worked for People's Commissariat of Foreign Affairs and for State Publ House. 1923-1924 Soviet plenipotentiary in Italy. From 1924 in Moscow, engaged in lit work.
