RUSSEL’-SUDZILOVSKJY, Nikolay was born in 1848.
Emigrated from Russia and graduate medical faculty in Rumania. Developed very popular medical practice in Rumania. 1881 arrested and deported from Rumania for revol activities.
Spent many years in Belgium, Italy, Austria, Spain and Switzerland, working at various chemical, pharmacological and bacteriological clinics and laboratories. Specialized in eye diseases. Then went to America and campaigned against Orthodox clergy, for which he was excommunicated.
Became an American citizen. From 1892 settled for many years in Honolulu, Hawaii. Here he developed an extensive, popular medical practice, learned native language and engaged in soc work.
Founded and headed native Kanaka Party as counterweight to American influence in Hawaii. When this party won the elections to the House of Representatives and the Senate, Russel’-Zudzilovskiy became president of the Senate, i.c., virtually head of the Hawaian RepubI. Introduced various political and soc reforms, especially in the field of public health and hygiene legislation.
During Russo-Japanese War went to Japan and engaged in educational work and revol propaganda among Russian prisoners-of-war. Foreign this he was deprived of his citizenship by the American government. After the war he remained in Japan, working on medical and chemistry and conducting extensive correspondent with specialists in Western Europe and America.
Also engaged in soc and lit work. Spent last nine years of his life in China (Tientsin), practising as oculist among poor peasantry. Received pension from Soviet government.
