Background
Nikolay was born on the 15th of February, 1922 in Borovka village, now the Novozybkov district of the Bryansk region, Russian Federation. His father was a foster. In 1942, was captured and later remained in the West, now lives in the USA.

In 1941 graduated from the History Department of the Novozybkov State Pedagogical Institute. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War was accepted in the Voronezh Military Communications School, from where was issued ahead of schedule and sent to the front.
