He received basic education at a working man’s college and then proceeded to study at Lunacharsky State Institute for Theatre Arts in Moscow (today known as Russian Academy of Theatre Arts).
During World War II he headed an artistic ensemble of the Red Army at Volkhov Front. Moreover, Gromov was the head of the theatre part of Chelyabinsk Arts department
His career then mostly involves cooperation with various art magazines of USSR.
