Author of about 750 published works, including books published in Moscow: «Sputnik samoobrazovaniya» (1906), «Narodnoe obrazovanie v Rossii s 60-h godov XIX veka» (1912), «Vvedenie v izuchenie detskoj literatury» (1915). Children's drama«Snezhnaya koroleva» (1903), created by Chekhov based on the fairy tale by Kh.K. Andersen, was reprinted many times.
In 1916-1919 he was in charge of the provincial pedagogical courses in Voronezh, where he taught classes on the methodology of the Russian language, children's literature and children's reading. Participated in the work of the local Public People's University, created the society "Family and School". Vowel of the provincial zemstvo from Voronezh. Chairman of the Voronezh City Duma (1917). Editor (August - September 1917) and active employee of the newspaper "Voronezh Telegraph". After 1917 he served in the provincial department of public education.
