1928 first Soviet pedologist to use electrometric method of determining redox factor of soils. 1929-1933 supervised detailed study of soils of some 100 experimental fields in European Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics, Siberia, Far East, Centr Asia and Transcaucasia. 1933-1938 professor and head, Chair of Soil Sciences and Geology, Bryansk Forestry Institute.
1938-1942 at All-Union Forest Management Research Institute. 1942-1945 dean, Geologist Soil Faculty, Moscow University. From 1958 head, Chair of Soil Sciences and head, Soil Department, Biological Soil Faculty, Moscow University.
1956 and 1960 presented papers at 6th and 7 th International Congresses of Soil Sciences in Paris.
