He studied under Hokkai Katayama in Osaka. At the urge of Shunshui Rai, he studied the doctrine of Sorai Ogyu.
Career
Appointed instructor at the Shokeiko, the Shogunate College in 1791. He was regarded as one of the triumvirates in Confucian learning in the Kansei Era.
