Nissim Bar-Yaacov received a degree of Master of Arts in the Hebrew University Jerusalem, Israel, 1954, then received a Diploma in International Law from University Cambridge, England, 1955. Later returned to Hebrew University Jerusalem, where received a Doctor of Philosophy in International Law, 1961. Studied at the University of Sofia and the University of Denver.
Nissim Bar-Yaacov worked as a lecturer in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1961 to1967, then he became a senior lecturer there in 1967 and held a position till 1972 when became associate professor and professor in 1980. He also was the head of the Department of International Relations at Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1976 to 1978. Bar-Yaacov worked as a professor emeritus in the Hebrew University of Jerusalem since 1990.
He was a visiting professor at the University of Virginia from 1984-1985 and visiting scholar at the University of Cambridge from 1989-1990.
Nissim Bar-Yaacov was a secretary of the International Law Association, Israel Branch, 1955-1968 and Counsel for Israel Egypt-Israel Arbitration on Taba, 1986-1988. He was a member of the American Society of International Law, International Law Association, and Israel Council for Foreign Relations.
Nissim Bar-Yaacov was a highly regarded international lawyer - very scrupulous in being impartial and rigorous in his research. He was greatly admired - a very modest man and easy to talk to.
