Nobumitsu Aoyama

Background

Retainer of the Mito Clan and the eldest son of Nobuyuki Aoyama. He was interested in history, good at writing poetry. Wrote several books including the lives of the 47 Ronin of the Loyal League. Was director of the Shokokan and professor at the Kodokwn, the two institutions being famous Confucian schools of the Mito Clan. He promoted learning among the retainers of Mito. He wrote the epilogue to the Dai Nihonshi, a history of Japan edited by order of Mitsukuni Tokugawa, Lord of Mito. After the Meiji Restoration, he served the Imperial Court in1869.
