Background
Takatsukasa Nobusuke was born in Tokyo, 1889, to a family originating from one of the five Sekke clans: the Sekke are the five families into which Tokiyori Hiijii divided the Fujiwara Clan, namely: Konoe, Takatsukasa, Kujo, Nijii and Ichijii. This was done to weaken their power.
Education
He graduated with a degree in zoology from Tokyo University (1914) and thereafter devoted himself to the study of ornithology.
Career
He was appointed chief priest to the Meiji Shrine (1944) and became a director of the shrine (1947). Was a member of the House of Peers, an instructor to the Crown Prince and director of the Publishing and Cultural Association.
