After his master was assassinated by Mitsuhide Akechi at Hon Temple, Kyoto (1582), he joined the army of Hideyoshi Toyotomi and took revenge upon Mitsuhide at Yamazaki. When Hideyoshi and ieyasu Tokugawa clashed in arms, he took the initiative and after carrying Inuyama Castle began advancing towards Mikawa, but on the way he was routed at Nagakute and both he and his son, Yukinaga were killed.
