Oguromaro no Fujiwara was born in 1185. He was the son of Norisue, his sister was Shumei-Mon-in, a Court lady.

Because his sister was Shumei-Mon-in, a Court lady favored by ex-Emperor Gotoba, he was trusted by the ex-emperor and became influential. Appointed a Court Councillor in 1220. Having participated in the ex-emperor’s plot to overthrow the Kamakura Shoaunate, he defended Kyoto along the Uji River in the resultant war. He was defeated, captured and put to death in Sagami Province (Kanagawa Prefecture) in 1221.
He was well versed in ancient practices and usages.
