When his brother rose in revolt against the Heike family he fought alongside him and helped to destroy them (1184). Later he fell foul of his brother and fled to Shuzenji, Izu Province (Shizuoka Prefecture), but was attacked by Kagetoki Kajiwara and out of fear of being taken prisoner set tire to his house and burnt himself to death.
