Norman Kolpas

Background

Norman Kolpas was born on August 4, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He is the son of Irving and Molly Lou Kolpas.

Education

In 1973 Norman Kolpas received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University.

Career

From 1976 to 1980 Norman Kolpas was an editor for Time-Life Books. From 1982 to 1984 he worked as a managing editor for Knapp Communications. Since 1990 he has been a writing instructor at the University of California, Los Angeles. From 1991 to 2001 Kolpas served as a consulting editor at Weldon Owen. From 2001 to 2003 he was a senior vice president of Wolfgang Puck Worldwide. Since 2004 Kolpas has been a president of Kolpas Media Inc.

Norman has authored more than 40 nonfiction books, and has consulted on or ghost-written countless others. He has also written several hundred nonfiction pieces that have appeared in such esteemed publications as Bon Appetit, Sunset, HOME, The Times of London, and Elle.

In Pasta Gusto: Fabulous Sauces and Flavored Pastas Kolpas provides recipes that range from easy to make pasta sauces to more complicated pasta meals. Michael’s Cookbook was written with Michael McCarty, a French-trained chef and owner of Michael’s restaurant in California. Included in the cookbook are recipes for dishes served in Michael’s and photographs of the artwork on display in the restaurant. Southwest the Beautiful Cookbook: Recipes from America's Southwest provides two hundred recipes on dishes that originated in the Southwest region of America. Included are color photographs of the food and the Southwest landscape.

Achievements

• Norman Kolpas is best known as the author of dozens of cookbooks, including cookbooks for chef John Sedlar, restaurant owner Michael McCarty, and the Hotel Bel-Air. His books received high praise from critics.
