Nuri was born in 1926 in Istanbul, Turkey.
Nuri went to study painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts.
Abac later moved to the city of Ankara in 1960, where he worked on the Society of United Painter and Sculptors. The artist exhibited regularly from 1967 until the end of his life, both in Turkey and abroad, notably in his participation in Venice Biennales.
Abac's painting treated the mythological creatures of Anatolian culture in a fairy-tale, surreal-fantastic manner, while in later work he used likenesses of Karagoz to deal with matters of historical and current interest. He also enjoys depicting fishermen, simit vendors, market places, Turkish taverns, wedding celebrations, tea gardens and many other subjects having the favor of his country. He has been influenced by traditional forms and the formal languages of the cultural heritage, and has managed to achieve the universal through the local. He died on March 2, 2008 in Ankara, Turkey.
