Takiguchi Nyudo was born about 1180. He was the son of Shigeyori.
Frustrated in love he renounced the world and became a monk, first at the Ojoin Temple and later at the Saijo-shin-in Temple on Mt. Koya. His piety earned him the name of Saint Koya. He wrote a romance which was made into a famous novel, Takiguchi Nyudo, by Chogyii Takayama.
Legend has it that he fell madly in love with Yokobue, a maid of the Imperial Court and wanted to marry her. It is said the maid never forgot him and that he died peacefully in her arms.
