Ogura Tsunekichi went to Tokyo and became an apprentice at an oil shop. Studied petroleum and started his own petroleum business (1889). He started a petroleum refining enterprise (1899), thereby laying the foundation for the Ogura Petroleum Company. His enterprise was reorganized into a joint-stock company (1925) and became one of the leading petroleum companies.
