It is recorded that he was in the suite of ex-Empress Regnant Jito when she traveled to Mikawa (Aichi Pre-fecture) in 702. Some of his poems were composed in Kii Province (Wakayama Prefecture) and Naniwa (Osaka). His poems mainly concern human life as affected by nature. Some of them are play¬ful compositions, either containing the names of many objects in a single 31- syllable ode or composed on peculiar sub¬jects. The Manyoshu Anthology contains 14 of his waka.
